We're recording some doom/stoner metal tomarrow. You can get the right type of power soak that gives you the option of having a dummy load instead of a speaker cab. Works great. Somewhat pricey for the unit tho. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/THD-Hot-Plate-Attenuator?sku=481283
